Election Party Draws Overflow Crowd
More than six hundred guests dropped in at the joint American Chamber of Commerce / U.S. Embassy election morning party, including political leaders, both in and out of government; media; educators; U.S. program alumni; and expatriate Americans. The party – an Embassy-wide event coordinated with input from all sections – featured live television feeds; IRI and NDI information tables; internet stations where participants could check local election results or read up on the electoral college; recordings of the presidential and vice-presidential debates and comedy sketches from Saturday Night Live; and a mock election for Georgians complete with voting booths borrowed from the Central Election Commission. The newly-named Georgian Prime Minister made one of his first public appearances to congratulate the Embassy on the elections. Media covered the event extensively, with live reporting on the morning and noon news programs, and the elections the Embassy election party was the primary feature of the evening news.
