On October 4-8, Georgia received two delegations from Washington. Strobe Talbott, the former Deputy Secretary of State and journalist, and General John Malchase Shalikashvili were leading the National Democratic Institute delegation. Senator John McCain was heading the International Republican Institute delegation. The visitors were discussing upcoming parliamentary elections in Georgia.
