First Presidential Debate Fascinates and Educates

More than 60 FLEX, UGRAD, and Muskie alumni, as well as university students and professors gathered at the Embassy  to watch the first debate between Senator McCain and Senator Obama. APAO Stephen Guice led a lively discussion following the debate in which many participants said they wished similar debates would be held in Georgia. “They focused on so many issues and had to answer hard questions from each other, but they kept a nice tone”  one student said, comparing U.S. campaign styles to the rule in Georgia.. The audience was particularly interested to see that more than ten minutes of the debate focused on Georgia and Russia, and that both candidates expressed support for Georgia. PAS hosted the debate as part of a rigorous schedule of election-related outreach in Tbilisi and at our eight American Corners around the country.
