U. S. Embassy Opens Eighth American Corner in Akhaltsikhe
Georgia’s eighth American Corner opened in the center of Akhaltsikhe, in one of the oldest libraries in Georgia that has been in operation since 1895. The library was first opened by Ilya Chavchavadze and is a key cultural resource for the community. Already residents of the multi-cultural city are actively using the new books, DVDs, and free internet in the American Corner. A men’s choir greeted the Ambassador, Giorgi Khachidze, the Governor of Samtskhe-Javakheti and other officials, children, and patrons of the library with traditional polyphonic songs. The Opening was covered by both local and national television.
