Ambassador Volker and the North Atlantic Council Visit Tbilisi, Establish Georgia-NATO commission

On September 15 and 16, 2008, NATO’s North Atlantic Council (NAC) visited Georgia to affirm NATO’s relationship with Georgia and take that relationship to the next stage by establishing a Georgia-NATO commission.  U.S. Ambassador to NATO Kurt Volker was part of that delegation which met civil society and government leaders, viewed war damage in Gori, and expressed support for Georgia.  Ambassador Volker engaged with international and Georgian media on Russia’s responsibility for precipitating the conflict. He began his interview with Rustavi 2 by saying “I want to express my admiration for the people of Georgia for their resilience and great courage in the face of great difficulties that they are facing.”
