July 29, U.S. GOVERNMENT MAKES GRANT OF EQUIPMENT TO GEORGIAN BORDER GUARDS
On July 29 U.S. Ambassador to Georgia Richard Miles, the Head of the OSCE Mission to Georgia Ambassador Jean-Michel Lacombe and the Head of the Georgian Border Guards Department General Valeri Chkheidze took part in the official handing over of the first part of a U.S. donation of equipment worth $800,000 to the Georgian Border Guards. Equipment included UAZ vehicles, medical evacuation stretchers, cold weather boots, camping equipment, first aid equipment, etc. The Georgian Border Guards work alongside OSCE border monitors on the borders with the Dagestan, Ingush and Chechen portions of the Georgian border with the Russian Federation.
