Defense Threat Reduction Office
DTRO-G supports several key U.S. Embassy Tbilisi objectives such as Euro-Atlantic Integration, International Cooperation, and Peace and Security measures. Specifically, DTRA's International Counterproliferation Program (ICP) counters the threat of proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD), related materials and technologies across international borders through training, conferences and joint exercises.
Additionally, the Biological Threat Reduction Program (BTRP) prevents the sale, theft, diversion or accidental release of biological weapons materials, technology and expertise; consolidates especially dangerous pathogens (EDP) into safe and secure central laboratories; integrates Georgian scientists into the international scientific community; and augments existing human and animal surveillance systems to establish an integrated disease surveillance system for EDP.
The DTRO partners with a variety of Georgian Ministries to achieve these objectives.
