Seventh Annual U.S. Education Fair (October 9)
The U.S. Embassy helped demystify the world of higher
education in the United States at the seventh annual U.S. Education Fair, held
on October 9 at Expo Georgia. Over 300 students, parents of students,
teachers and advisors learned about the U.S. college application process,
scholarship opportunities and financial aid.
For the first time, the U.S. Embassy also Webcast the fair to regional student
advising centers in Telavi, Batumi, Akhaltsikhe, and Kutaisi using the State
Department's CO.NX system. Visitors
learned about programs for international students sponsored by the U.S.
government and administered by partner organizations. These include the UGRAD and Muskie programs (administered by IREX), the FLEX program (administered by ACTR/ACCELS), as well as the Fulbright and Humphrey programs. Throughout
the day, students browsed displays featuring photos and information from twenty
U.S. universities and colleges, and talked with alumni representatives. Prospective students asked questions about
qualifying and applying for financial aid packages and test requirements for
admission at U.S. universities. They also
learned about resources for additional information at KVALI and Center for International
Education advising centers, where students can receive individual
guidance as they seek admission to U.S. universities.
