Opening of American Corner Celebrated in Batumi
December 15, 2009
Ambassador John Bass and the Governor of Adjara, Levan Varshalomidze marked the opening of a newly-renovated American Corner in Batumi State Library. Other guests in attendance for the celebratory occasion included the mayor of Batumi, representatives of the English Teachers Association of Georgia as well as USG-supported education resource centers, university teachers, librarians, students and alumni of U.S. funded exchanges.
The re-opening of the new and improved American Corner in Batumi was a visible symbol of a successful four-year partnership between the U.S. Embassy's Public Affairs Section and the Batumi State Library. The U.S. Government supported the renovation project, doubling the size of the existing American Corner and making it possible for the Batumi American Corner to host more programs for larger audiences. American Corners are designed to strengthen cultural and educational ties between the U.S. and Georgia. For more information about American Corners please follow this Link.
