Ambassador Meets with Members of the Media Club

Ambassador John Bass met with key members of the Media Club, a group of independent, engaged journalists concerned with the state of the media in Georgia.  They have joined together to advocate for greater media freedom and independence.  Club members and leading advocates of media freedom, discussed media related issues, including ongoing reforms in the Public Broadcaster.  The Club has been working to convince political parties of the importance to depoliticize the board of the Public Broadcaster and nominate civil society representatives instead of political party activists to the board.  The Media Club says they have succeeded in persuading some non-government opposition parties to give up their seats on the board in favor of the civil society representatives.
